Young Artist Competition - 2007 Winners

Sara DvorskySara Dvorsky is a 17-year-old junior at Peoria Notre Dame High School.  She is involved in choir, band and drama at school, and participates in the music ministry at St. Philomena Church.  For the past two years, she has qualified for IMEA District Festival Choir.  She enjoys participating in musicals, and has played Oliver in Oliver! and Bonnie in Anything Goes at PND.  Sara credits her start in choral music to a wonderful six semesters with the Peoria Area Civic Choral Youth Chorus under the direction of Mrs. Gayle Wallis and Dr. Kerry Walters.  She would like to thank her parents and friends for supporting her, her music teachers Mrs. Strauss and Mrs. Vandre, and especially her voice teacher Shirley Salazar.


Anna Joy Buegel Fifteen-year-old Anna Joy Buegel is a home schooled sophomore.  She is a self-proclaimed diehard First Soprano who also enjoys reading, writing short stories and beading in her spare time.  Her love of music developed early in the home and church.  Currently, Anna is a piano student under Pamela Bates, and is taking voice lessons under Shirley Salazar.  Her choir experiences include Rochester, Minnesota, home school choir (two years), eoria Area Civic Chorale Youth Chorus (one year), and Peoria Cooperative Academy High School Chorale (one and-a-half years).  Recently she has had the fun pleasure of attending PACC Summer Chorale Camp and singing with the IMEA Honors Choir and PCA Madrigals.  Anna would like to thank her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for giving her the ability to sing, and her love of music.


Jessica GebbinkJessica Gebbink is a junior in high school.  She enjoys spending time with her friends and family and has been studying voice with Shirley Salazar.  She has been active in the Peoria Cooperative Academy’s choir and Madrigal group.  Music has always been a part of Jessica’s family.  She has three wonderful siblings who have always been an inspiration to her life.  Her mother is a piano teacher.  Jessica has played piano for as long as she can remember, and enjoys writing and composing music.  She has also played cello for 8 years. Music is her passion.  She is planning on going to a four year university for Vocal Music Education, to enhance her musical ability.  Jessica has attended the Eureka Choral Camp for the past two years, and is delighted to have the opportunity to go again.  She is very happy to have had this experience and will cherish it forever.
